The Gambian Dalasi (sign: D; code: GMD) is the official currency of the Gambia, the smallest country on the African mainland, issued by the Central Bank of The Gambia. Introduced in 1971, it replaced the Gambian pound at a rate of 5 dalasi per pound when the country decimalized its currency. The dalasi is subdivided into 100 bututs, and the Gambian economy relies primarily on tourism, agriculture, and remittances from the diaspora.
