The Uzbekistan som is the official currency of Uzbekistan, a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia. It was introduced on 1 July 1994, replacing the Russian ruble at a rate of 1 som to 1,000 rubles following the country's independence from the Soviet Union. The som is subdivided into 100 tiyin and is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
