The CFA franc BCEAO (Franc de la Communauté Financière d'Afrique) is the currency shared by eight West African nations: Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. It is issued by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and is pegged to the euro at a rate of 655.957 francs per euro. Like its Central African counterpart, it was introduced in 1945 and is backed by the French Treasury.
