In computing, a character adalah satuan dari digital storage conventionally sama dengan one byte (8 bits), representing a single letter, digit, punctuation mark, or control simbol. The equivalence of one character to one byte originates from early ASCII encoding, where each character was stored in exactly 8 bits. Modern encodings such as UTF-8 may use multiple bytes per character, but the single-byte convention persists in many storage contexts.
