Mile (Roman)
The Roman mile (mille passuum, meaning "a thousand paces") was an ancient satuan panjang sama dengan 1,000 double paces (passus), or kira-kira 1,480 metres. It served as the standard long-distance measurement throughout the Roman Empire and was the direct ancestor of most subsequent European miles. Roman road markers called milestones (milliaria) were placed at each Roman mile, a practice that influenced later road measurement traditions.
