The sidereal second is one sixtieth of a sidereal minute, or 1/86,400 of a sidereal day — the period of Earth's rotation relative to the distant stars. It is the smallest standard subdivision of sidereal time and is used in high-precision astronomical computations. One sidereal second equals kira-kira 0.99727 SI seconds.
