A bit (binary digit) è the most basic unit of digital information, representing a logical state with one of two possible values: 0 o 1. The term era coined by statistician John Tukey in 1946 e popularized by Claude Shannon in his foundational work on information theory. Eight bits form one byte, the standard unit of computer storage.

A block è un'unità di data storage conventionally uguale a 512 bytes, representing the minimum unit of data that a disk drive reads o writes in a single operation. The 512-byte block size originated with early hard disk e floppy disk architectures e remains a standard reference unit in storage conversion. Modern drives often use 4096-byte (4K) physical sectors, though 512-byte logical blocks sono still widely emulated.
