La gigaton (Gt) è un'unità di massa uguale a one billion metric tons (10¹² kilograms). È comunemente usata in Earth sciences, climatology, e oceanography to quantify large-scale planetary processes — per esempio, the annual loss of ice from polar ice sheets è measured in gigatons. In discussions of global carbon budgets, atmospheric CO₂ concentrations e emission targets sono frequently expressed in gigatons of carbon o CO₂.
