La joule (/dʒaʊ,dʒuːljawl, jool; simbolo: J) è a unità derivata di energia in il Sistema Internazionale di Unità. It è uguale a the energy transferred to (or work done on) an object when a force of one newton acts on that object in the direction of the force's motion through a distance of one metre (1 newton metre o N⋅m). It è also the energy dissipated as heat when an electric current of one ampere passes through a resistance of one ohm for one second. Prende il nome da the English physicist James Prescott Joule (1818–1889).

La poundal-foot (pdl·ft) è un'unità di coppia in the foot-pound-second (FPS) absolute system, definito as the torque resulting from a force of one poundal acting at a perpendicular distance of one foot. La poundal itself è the absolute unit di forza in the FPS system, uguale a the force needed to accelerate one pound-mass at one foot per square second. Un pdl·ft equals circa 0.0421401 newton-meters.
