La kiloton (kt) è un'unità di massa uguale a 1,000 metric tons (1 × 10⁶ kilograms), o alternatively un'unità di energy uguale a the explosive yield of 1,000 tons of TNT (circa 4.184 × 10¹² joules). In the context of nuclear weapons, the kiloton è usato to express the explosive yield of atomic bombs. The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 had a yield of circa 15 kilotons.
