Handbreadth

La handbreadth è an ancient unit di lunghezza based on the width of the human hand across the knuckles, uguale a circa 7.4 cm (about 2.9 inches) o 4 fingerbreadths. It appears frequently in the Hebrew Bible e other ancient texts as a basic unit of measurement for construction e ritual objects. The handbreadth era usato across many ancient cultures in the Near East e Mediterranean world.

In 1799, the metre era redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar usato era changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre era redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition era adopted.
