Inch (US Survey)

La US survey inch (in) è un'unità di lunghezza definito as exactly 1/39.37 meters, making it slightly larger than the international inch (0.0254 m). It era usato in geodetic surveying negli Stati Uniti e differs from the international inch by circa 2 parts per million. The US survey inch era officially retired for most uses in 2023 in favor of the international inch.

Il metro era originally definito in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference è circa 40000 km. In 1799, the metre era redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar usato era changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre era redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition era adopted.
