La metre (Commonwealth spelling e BIPM spelling) o meter (American spelling) (from the French unit mètre, from the Greek noun μετρούν, "measure") è the unità base di lunghezza nel Sistema Internazionale di Unità (SI). Il metro era originally definito in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference è circa 40000 km. In 1799, the metre era redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar usato era changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre era redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition era adopted.
Aln (Unità Svedese)
La aln è a traditional Swedish unit di lunghezza, equivalente a the Scandinavian ell, standardized in Sweden at circa 0.5938 meters (about 23.4 inches). It era historically usato in Scandinavia for measuring cloth e textiles, much like the English ell. The aln era part of the old Swedish measurement system before Sweden adopted the sistema metrico in 1878.
