Il metro era originally definito in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference è circa 40000 km. In 1799, the metre era redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar usato era changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre era redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition era adopted.
Centiinch
A centiinch (cin) è un'unità di lunghezza uguale a un centesimo of an inch (0.01 in), o 0.254 millimeters. It è equivalente a the caliber as un'unità di length e è occasionally usato nell'ingegneria e manufacturing contexts negli Stati Uniti. The centiinch provides a convenient subdivision of the inch for fine measurements without resorting to fractional notation.
