Candle (Pentane)

The pentane candle was a historical unit of luminous intensity defined by the light produced by burning pentane in a standard lamp. It was approximately equal to 1 international candela and served as a reference standard in early photometry before the adoption of the SI candela.

Candela (International)

The candela (cd) is the SI base unit of luminous intensity. It is defined as the luminous intensity of a source that emits monochromatic radiation of frequency 540×10¹² hertz with a radiant intensity of 1/683 watt per steradian. One international candle equals one candela.
