What it does
Military time is the 24-hour clock written with four digits and no colon: 0000 is midnight, 0930 is 9:30 in the morning and 1330 is 1:30 in the afternoon. It avoids confusion between AM and PM and is used by armed forces, hospitals, aviation and emergency services. This converter changes any time between the 12-hour and 24-hour formats and shows the current time and the Zulu time (UTC), used by the military worldwide.
How to use it
- Type a time in any format: 1:30 PM, 13:30 or 1330.
- See it in military time and in the 12-hour and 24-hour formats.
- Use the chart for a quick look at every hour of the day.
The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PM times to military time?
Add 12 to the hour for times from 1:00 PM to 11:59 PM: 3:45 PM becomes 1545. For 12 PM (noon) keep 12: 12:30 PM is 1230. For 12 AM (midnight) use 00: 12:15 AM is 0015.
How is military time said aloud?
In English it is read in pairs followed by "hours": 1330 is "thirteen thirty hours" and 0800 is "zero eight hundred hours". Each language has its own way of saying it.
What is Zulu time?
The military name for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the time at the Greenwich meridian, marked with a Z: 1530Z. It lets units in different time zones use the same clock.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Both are used for the same moment: 0000 is the start of a day and 2400 the end of the previous one. Most schedules use 0000, or 2359 to avoid any doubt.
