Gram-force

The gram-force (gf) is a unit of force equal to the gravitational weight of one gram under standard acceleration, amounting to approximately 9.80665 × 10⁻³ newtons or one thousandth of a kilogram-force. It is used in precision measurement, laboratory balances, and small-scale mechanical applications where forces are in the millinewton range. The gram-force is a gravitational unit outside the SI system, derived from the CGS tradition of using mass under gravity to define force. It is sometimes encountered in watchmaking, jewellery, and micro-mechanical engineering.
