HTML to Markdown Converter
Paste HTML code, or copy formatted text from a web page, Word or Google Docs and paste it in the box: the formatting is turned into Markdown, ready for GitHub, a wiki, notes or a chatbot.
What it does
Markdown is a simple way to format text with plain characters: # for headings, ** for bold, - for lists. It is used on GitHub, Reddit, Discord, Notion, Obsidian, in README files and in the answers of AI chatbots. These tools follow CommonMark, the standard Markdown specification, plus the GitHub extensions: tables, task lists, strikethrough and automatic links.
How to use it
- Paste HTML code or formatted text in the box, or open an .html file.
- Check the Markdown on the right.
- Copy it or download it as a .md file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so private notes, documentation and drafts never leave your device.
Which Markdown syntax is supported?
All of CommonMark (headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, code, links, images, HTML) plus GitHub Flavored Markdown tables, task lists with [ ] and [x], strikethrough with ~~ and links that start with https://.
Can I convert a Word or Google Docs document?
Yes: select the text in Word, Google Docs or a web page, copy it and paste it in the box. Headings, bold, italics, lists, links and tables become Markdown; colors and fonts are left out, since Markdown does not have them.
