JSON to XML Converter

Free JSON to XML and XML to JSON converter: attributes as @, text as #text, arrays as repeated elements, with error line numbers. Runs in your browser.

What it does

JSON and XML structure data differently, so the converter follows the most widely used convention: XML attributes become keys starting with @, text mixed with child elements goes into #text, and an element that repeats becomes a JSON array. Converting back gives the same structure. XML has no data types, so numbers and true/false come back as text.

How to use it

  1. Choose the direction and paste your JSON or XML.
  2. The result appears as you type; errors show the line and column.
  3. Copy or download the result, or swap to convert it back.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my JSON wrapped in a root element?
An XML document must have exactly one root element. When the JSON has several top-level keys, or is a list, the converter wraps it in <root>.

Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so it is safe for configuration files and private data.
