About Lorem Ipsum
Origin
The Lorem Ipsum passage has been the standard placeholder text since the 1500s, derived from Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum. The words lorem ipsum come from dolorem ipsum — Latin for pain itself. It became widely used in graphic design through Letraset sheets in the 1960s.
Digital Era
The passage became universal in desktop publishing when Aldus PageMaker (1985) shipped with Lorem Ipsum as default sample text. Today virtually every design tool and CMS uses it. Its lack of recognisable words lets readers focus on visual design rather than content.
When to use it
Lorem Ipsum is appropriate during wireframing and early layout work when real copy is not yet ready. It gives a realistic sense of text density. Always replace it with real content before publishing — search engines cannot meaningfully index Lorem Ipsum.
