Horsepower (water)

Water horsepower (hp) is a unit of power used in the context of pumps and hydraulic systems, defined as the minimum power required to move a given volume of water against a given pressure. It is equal to approximately 746 watts, very close to mechanical horsepower, and is calculated from flow rate and head pressure. This unit is primarily used by pump engineers in the United States to express hydraulic power output. It should not be confused with mechanical or metric horsepower.
