Remove Line Breaks
Free tool to remove line breaks from text copied from a PDF or an email. Join the lines of each paragraph or put everything on one line, right in your browser.
What it does
Text copied from a PDF, an email or a terminal often keeps a line break at the end of every line, where the original page ran out of width. Pasted somewhere else it comes out in short, broken lines. This tool joins the lines back together. Keeping paragraphs joins the lines inside each paragraph but leaves the blank line between paragraphs, which is what you usually want; putting everything on one line also turns a list into a single line separated by spaces or commas.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text in the box.
- Choose whether to keep the paragraphs and how the lines should be joined.
- Copy the result, which updates as you type.
Frequently asked questions
Why does text copied from a PDF break at every line?
A PDF stores where each line sits on the page, not where each paragraph begins and ends. When you copy it, the reader adds a line break at the end of every visual line, so a paragraph turns into a column of short lines.
Will my paragraphs be lost?
Not with "Join lines, keep paragraphs": the lines inside each paragraph are joined and the blank line between paragraphs stays. Choose "Put everything on one line" only when you really want a single line.
What happens to words split with a hyphen?
With "Join words split by a hyphen at the end of a line" on, a word broken across two lines is joined again. It only joins when the next line starts with a small letter, but compound words that happen to break at the hyphen would lose it too, so check the result.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser, in the page itself. Nothing is sent to our server and nothing is stored, so it is safe to use with private lists and documents.
