Replace Color in Image
Replace one colour in an image with another in your browser: click the colour, choose the new one or make it transparent, and keep the shading. Free, private.
What it does
This tool finds every pixel close to the colour you pick and changes it to a new colour or makes it transparent. Closeness is measured in the Lab colour space, the way the eye sees difference, so a tolerance of 10 catches the same red in light and shade but not the orange next to it. With Keep shading on, the change is added to each pixel, so a red car becomes blue with its reflections intact.
How to use it
- Choose the image and click the colour you want to change.
- Pick the new colour or transparency and adjust the tolerance until only that area changes.
- Download the result as PNG.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove a white background?
Click the white background, tick Make it transparent and use a tolerance of about 10. The PNG keeps the transparency, so the image can be placed on any colour.
What does the tolerance do?
It is how different a pixel may be from the picked colour and still change. At 0 only the exact colour changes; around 20 it covers shades of the same colour; above 40 nearby colours change too.
Will the quality of my photo drop?
No. Pixels that do not match are not touched and the result is saved as lossless PNG at the original size.
