What is the Unix timestamp?
The Unix timestamp tracks time as a running total of seconds since the Unix Epoch — 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970. It is simply the number of seconds between a given moment and that epoch, and the value is the same everywhere on Earth regardless of time zone. Computers use it to store, sort and compare dates reliably across systems, online and client-side.

What happens on January 19, 2038?
On 19 January 2038 the 32-bit Unix timestamp will overflow, wrapping around to a negative number and breaking software that still stores it in a signed 32-bit integer. Systems are moving to 64-bit timestamps, which push this limit billions of years into the future.
