PDF to Excel

Free PDF to Excel converter: turn the tables in a PDF, such as bank statements, invoices and reports, into an .xlsx sheet with real numbers. No upload.

The file is read by your browser and is not sent anywhere. No upload, no storage.

What it does

A PDF has no cells, only pieces of text placed on the page. This converter puts them back into rows and columns: rows from the lines of text, columns from the empty space that lines up from one row to the next, and the borders when the table has them, merged cells included. Amounts such as 1,234.56, (1,234.56) or 12.5% become numbers you can add up, and dates become dates you can sort.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF, or drag it onto the box.
  2. Choose whether all pages go into one sheet, which is best for a statement that runs over several pages, or one sheet per page, and which pages to convert.
  3. Press Convert, check the preview and download the .xlsx file, or the .csv.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read by your browser, on your computer or phone, and the spreadsheet is built there too. Nothing is uploaded or stored, which matters for bank statements and invoices.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No. A scanned page is a picture, so there is no text to put in cells. The converter tells you which pages are scanned; to read them, run them through text recognition (OCR) first.

Why are some numbers left as text?
On purpose. Codes that start with zero, such as account numbers and postal codes, would lose the zero; numbers with more than 15 digits would be rounded by Excel. Whether 1.234 means one thousand two hundred and thirty-four or just over one is decided by the rest of the document. Untick the option to keep everything as text.

My bank statement has several pages. Will it come out as one list?
Yes, with all pages in one sheet. The columns found on the first page carry on to the next ones, even when a column is empty on some page, and the column titles repeated at the top of each page, the page header and the footer are removed.

Why did two columns come out joined, or one split in two?
Without borders, columns are found by the empty space that lines up across the rows. Columns very close together, or a long text that runs into the next column, can join two of them. Converting only the pages with the table usually helps, and a table with borders always comes out cell by cell.
