What it does
A SIP (systematic investment plan) invests a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month. Each instalment buys units at that month’s price and grows with the fund, so the money invested early has the longest time to compound. The calculator uses the convention of Indian fund houses: the yearly return divided by 12 each month, with the instalment paid at the start of the month.
How to use it
- Enter the monthly amount, the return you expect and the number of years.
- Add a yearly step-up if you plan to raise the SIP as your income grows, and a lump sum if you start with one.
- Read the estimated value, how much of it is your own money and the table year by year.
The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 12% return guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns depend on the market and change from year to year; 12% is only a common assumption for equity funds over long periods. Try a lower rate to see a more cautious result.
What does a step-up do?
It raises the monthly SIP by a fixed percentage every year, for example 10%. Because the larger instalments still have years to grow, a modest step-up can raise the final value a lot.
