What it does
This tool reads text aloud with the speech synthesis built into your browser and operating system. It splits the text into sentences, reads them one after another and highlights the current one, so long texts do not stop halfway. You can choose the language and the voice, change the speed, pitch and volume, pause and resume, or click any sentence to jump to it. The text is never sent to our servers.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free and private?
Yes. The voice is generated by your own device, with no account and no limit, and the text is not sent to our servers. Some browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, also offer online voices; with those, the browser itself sends the text to its own speech service.
Why are the voices different on my phone and computer?
Each operating system and browser has its own voices. Edge offers natural online voices, Chrome adds Google voices, and on iPhone, iPad and Mac you can download enhanced voices in the accessibility settings under spoken content.
Can I download the audio as MP3?
Not with this tool. Browsers play the synthesised voice directly and do not give web pages access to the audio, so it can be listened to but not saved.
How do I get a voice for my language?
Add the language in your system settings and install its speech voice: on Windows under time and language, on Android in the text-to-speech settings, and on Apple devices in the spoken content settings. Then reload this page.
