Frequently asked questions
How does upside down text work?
Unicode has letters from other alphabets and phonetic symbols that look like Latin letters rotated 180°, such as ɐ, ǝ and ʇ. The tool swaps each letter for its look-alike and reverses the order, so the sentence reads correctly when you turn the screen around.
Why do some letters not flip?
Not every letter has an upside-down look-alike, and symmetric letters such as o, s, x and z look the same either way. Accented letters keep the accent on top of the flipped letter.
What is the difference between mirrored and backwards?
Backwards only reverses the order of the letters. Mirrored also replaces each letter with one that looks reflected, like text seen in a mirror; some letters have no reflected version and stay as they are.
