Miles per imperial gallon (mpg) is the fuel economy unit traditionally used in the United Kingdom and other countries that follow the imperial system, expressing how many miles a vehicle travels per imperial gallon (4.546 L) of fuel. Because the imperial gallon is larger than the US gallon, UK mpg figures are numerically higher than US mpg for the same vehicle. This unit has been largely supplemented by L/100 km in official EU reporting.
